Lithograph by Danielle Creenaune.

I create landscapes from memory, based on first hand observations and experiences. For me, the surface of a lithographic stone or plate is a landscape in itself. When creating an image, I respond intuitively and spontaneously to this landscape as well as to the forms of nature I have in mind. Variations in the language of marks are articulated through allowing elements of chance, surprise and accident to find their place....elements which also fascinate me in the movements of nature.

The print Paisaje was drawn directly on to the zinc plate, from memory of a small valley in the Spanish Pyrenees. The valley is very high in the mountains with narrow winding roads and paths.  I wanted the image to be very dynamic as the time of year was autumn and there were many changes occurring each day in the landscape. I used a combination of water based and solvent based tusche together on the brush to create this energy. I also used a spray to apply the tusche. Other marks were made using crayon and also the side of the crayon to give a shaded broad line.
