Recently many of my prints are intended to be inverted illustrations, utilizing the integration of digital tools to generate colour separations printed as lithographs. The value and versatility of lithography has always been intriguing as it allows qualities of layering colour, transparencies and the manipulation of the matrix, not possible in any other method of image making.
The broad scope of lithography allows for an investigative mentality, while serving the intentional mind. I have always employed lithography as a means to allow an idea to be realized through such processes as single stone reduction; multi-plate lithography, which employs additive colour separations; paper plate lithography, which lends itself to the development of larger images; and polyester plate lithography which enables the juxtaposition of images in an expedient manner.
Currently I seek for methods of generating ‘drawings’ to serve as the source of illustrative prints that are motivated by a fictitious author by the name of James O’Ganolley. The concept of ‘Book Pages’ by James O’Ganolley is influenced by my interest in Goya’s ‘Los Capprichos’ and the drawings of Daumier. They attempt to reference the past and compare them to socio-political events of the present. It is my intent that the recent series of prints illustrate metaphorical qualities of historical events comparative to our struggles with Globalized culture.
