My interest in lithography derives from the sweet smell of Gum Arabic, the peculiarly satisfying sensation of dragging pigment across the grained surface and the magic of grease water repulsion in printing.
Lately, I have become enamoured with rubbing crayon, which balances loss of precision with gain in atmosphere and painterly-ness. The rubbed tones are approximations of the intended marks and i enjoy the fuzzy amorphous effects they yield.
As a copperplate mezzotint artist, I have also become interested in the infancy of lithography, circa 1820, when many early practitioners experimented with intaglio-like effects.
