I did not want to treat the mark making processes often used in lithography as a separate technique but to combine them with some of the ways of working that I use in my painting. In my work I often build up my surfaces using sand, grit, ground down materials, or whatever comes to hand. It's a process that might be called 'Likeness by like processes'. Paint and texture are more physical, full of information; it was necessary to break down this information for the lithograph whilst retaining the sensation of the mark.
By working onto sheets of grained film with various mediums and tools I am able to add or remove marks, distress, scrape, fix and manipulate the surface, allowing each successive printed layer to add to the spirit of place; to portray the structure of the landscape.
