The work explores a transient emotional response. It is spontaneous and gestural with the outcome being non-representational art. The work fluctuates between our internal and external landscapes, remaining ambiguous and unsettling.

Lithography using spirit tusche provides the ideal medium for expressing my response to the world around me. The material hardness of the lithographic stone or plate contrasts with the fluidity of the tusche. the process is exciting and dynamic with that elusive balance between chance and control. This unpredictability allows for a freedom that is a constant source of inspiration.

It is the mark, the maker and the material working together that promotes lithography as a contemporary medium. The versatility of the medium is seen through the mark making; it can achieve rich solid colours or a range of tone, contrasted with the delicate water and spirit washes. Add layering, transparent ink and colour and you have a medium that could keep you busy for a lifetime!
